Guidelines for setting the maximum transmission unit (MTU) for LLT

Last published : Aug 25, 2026
LLT can operate on default 1500 MTU but Arctera recommends increasing MTU to achieve maximum performance. Review the following guidelines for setting the MTU for LLT interconnects:
  • Set the maximum transmission unit (MTU) to the highest value (typically 9000) supported by the NICs when LLT links are configured over UDP. Ensure that the switch is also set to 9000 MTU.
  • For virtual NICs, all components (the virtual NIC, the corresponding physical NIC, and the virtual switch) must be set to 9000 MTU.
Note: InfoScale for Containers uses only LLT over UDP as the transport layer. Other transport protocols such as LLT over ethernet, LLT over RDMA, and LLT over TCP are not supported in a container environment.
