Disaster recovery in OpenShift virtualization environment

IKE introduces Virtual Machine Disaster Recovery (VM-DR) for protecting virtualized workloads running on OpenShift Container Platform (OCP) 4.17 and later. VM-DR extends the existing DR Manager workflow by enabling the capture, migration, and restoration of VirtualMachine and VirtualMachinePool resources across clusters participating in a DisasterRecoveryPlan.
VM-DR extends InfoScale’s disaster recovery workflow to support virtualized workloads on OpenShift by providing automated shutdown, capture, migration, restore, and restart operations. It integrates directly with existing DR constructs—GlobalClusterMembership, DataReplication, and DisasterRecoveryPlan—requiring no changes to the established workflow or additional installation. This ensures predictable migration, failover, and failback workflows with strong consistency validation across clusters and persistent storage preservation.
Note: VM-DR has been validated for up to 100 Virtual Machines. It operates at a namespace granularity, where each Disaster Recovery Plan protects exactly one namespace (1 DR Plan = 1 Namespace). This structure keeps recovery predictable and ensures clean isolation
