Committing the background changes to encrypt a volume

Last published : Jul 06, 2026
The Server perspective of the InfoScale Operations Manager is used to finalize the online migration of an unencrypted volume to an encrypted one.
To commit online migration
  1. Right-click the top-level volume for which you have started online migration and click Encrypt Volume>Commit.
  2. On the Commit Volume dialog box, verify the name of the volume and clickOK.
This operation invokes the vxassist migrate command with the -o commit option and the relevant parameters.
  1. On the Commit Volume - Result panel, verify the status of the operation and click OK to close the dialog box.
When the process completes successfully, the encrypted plex is attached to the original volume. A new backup volume is created on the additional storage with the same volume name and the -old suffix and its encryption state as OFF. The unencrypted (source) plex is attached to the backup volume.
The encryption state of the original volume is now set to ON. In the volumes list, the Encrypted column displays its status as Yes.
Note: After the online migration is committed successfully, the volume encryption cannot be disabled. The only workaround is to create a copy of the unencrypted data onto another volume with the same layout and mirror settings and then replace the encrypted volume.
